Moodle’s Honest Picture

Moodle is powerful. It is also genuinely hard to do well.

Moodle’s open-source model gives institutions real ownership and flexibility. It also means the platform is only as good as the team that implements and maintains it.

We have done extensive Moodle work. We know where it excels and where it strains. The limitations below are real constraints that institutions should understand before choosing it as their long-term platform.

White-labeling is partialThemes customise the appearance, but full brand removal — particularly on mobile apps — requires significant custom development. The "Moodle" identity is difficult to remove entirely.

Data hosting is your responsibilitySelf-hosted Moodle gives you data control — but also full infrastructure responsibility. Compliance, uptime, backups, and security fall to your IT team, not a vendor.

Mobile experience requires extra workThe official Moodle app is functional but generic. A fully branded iOS and Android app under your institution's name requires custom development on top of the core platform.

Video conferencing is third-partyMoodle does not include native video conferencing. BigBlueButton and Zoom integrations work — but they add another vendor, another contract, and another data flow to manage.

UX requires deliberate design investmentOut of the box, Moodle's interface is dated. Getting it to a standard that staff and students will adopt without resistance requires meaningful UX and theming work.

Deployment region, user count, white-label scope, SLA level — all four cost variables are explained clearly upfront. No discovery surprises after contract signature.

We do not move your data without your instruction.

Data stays in the jurisdiction we agreed. We provide a Data Processing Agreement before deployment begins — not when you ask for one during a compliance review.

Support is included — not a paid tier.

Onboarding, migration support, and ongoing assistance are part of what you pay for. We do not gate access to our team behind a premium support package.
